In eyes of these homeless kids, I found my own home!

Stepping into the magnificent red building some three years back, I had not imagined that I would not be able to come back to this place without my heart filled with love for this place and its cute little residents. Rushing hastily into the building, I entered into one of the appointed classes, the kids greeted me eagerly. I started with a general introduction of them. The more I got to know them, the more love I felt for them.
We were a bunch of teachers appointed by an NGO to teach kids at SOS children villages. Our main teaching methods were quite unconventional so that made kids enjoy it even more. It further helped us explore other sides of their personality. They had hearts filled with generosity, compassion and kindness.
There used to be days when they would leave me shocked at how easily they grasped intricate concepts. The kids were not only intelligent but also had great manners. There is no doubt SOS is rightfully known as everything that a home can offer them.
These kids, like any other kid also had the same dreams, aspirations and routine. They would also zone out and start fidgeting when the lecture started getting boring. They were also equally interested in listening to fairy tales.
When I changed my job, I missed these kids for some time. Months afterwards, I found my way back to them. Not as a teacher this time. This was the first time I was exposed to their homes. No doubt, this showed me another view of SOS. Prior to that, I had only seen schools. This time I got the opportunity to find kids at their homes in SOS. The cute little faces would greet me like they know me since long. I would sit with them and sometimes play with them like a kid and other times would share comfortable silences with them.
Meeting these kids and conversing with them has taught me a lot about gratitude, life, love relationships and family. No doubt I got greater benefit from meeting them.
We sometimes think that helping these kids might just mean giving them monetary benefits which is just not true. Let me tell you that first of all, it is going to give you better dividends be it monetary help or emotional help. Little acts of kindness carried out today will reap you bigger impacts in the long run both on your soul and in the world.
