Here’s why I took therapy and you should too!

I clearly recall that one time I felt my entire body going numb. I was under stress and also exceptionally overwhelmed. I was on a call with a friend and told her about that. She said next time that happens, name five things you can touch, four you can hear and three you can smell. It helps come back to the present and is an exceptionally good grounding technique for a panic attack.

The very next day she called and mentioned the most dreaded word and a foreign concept in South Asian households, “therapy”.  She said I should go for it.

I was too hesitant at first because I am officially going to a space that no one in my entire generation dared to explore. I was well aware of the stigma attached to it. Anyways I thought let's just start and see where it takes me.

A few sessions later I felt so clear and coherent in my thoughts and started exhibiting a very calm demeanor. My therapist helped me develop healthy coping mechanisms and taught me how to gently create and protect my boundaries. A girl who was always considered underconfident  and shy was now being taken seriously in business dealings.

For the longest time, I struggled with impulsivity and that led me to take quick unthoughtful decisions. I have now learned, through therapy, exceptionally good tools to curb feelings of impulsivity and now i have enough patience to walk myself through the entire process of taking a decision before I jump to any decision.

Therapy is all about investing in your own self. Because believe you me good mental health will take you a long way. It's a very good feeling to finally confide in someone who is non-judgmental and offers a safe space. I took therapy from Madiha and recommend her to anyone who wants to go for noticeable self improvement.

Therapy also helped me to view the world from different perspectives and also from the perspective of others. It helped me develop more empathy towards others and improved the quality of my relationships.

Therapy also helped me work towards my independance. During the course of my therapy I achieved some noticeable milestones like I got my driving license and also I resumed writing after abandoning this hobby for nine years.

In short, therapy has redefined and redesigned my life and allowed me to move towards my dreams with clarity, confidence, and purpose. I feel rejuvenated for good.
